Thexpan®

Thexpan® is a thermodynamic panel designed for covering roofs of energy-efficient and passive buildings and a variation of the Thermont® system.

Thermont® is the classic form of a sandwich panel used in industrial settings, with Solcraft’s patented ThermontPLUS® variant bringing increased performance and ease of use into residential construction.

Thexpan® is the only patented solution on the market that combines a panel with a heat exchanger, creating one modern construction and insulation material. Thexpan® panels can be used for various purposes – they are a thermal solar panel, a self-snow-clearing roof, a heat radiator and its absorber. They can also provide free power source for a heat pump.

All thanks to external piping to collect radiation from the sun.

Such a connection of the panel with the heat exchanger allows for combining the protective function of the panel with the technological function (absorption or release of heat) and, as a result, reduces investment and operating costs. Thexpan® panels are used in residential and industrial construction.

The thermodynamic Thexpan® panel – as the only roof in the world – can be used as a lower power source for heat pumps. Thexpan® panels are a hybrid of protective building materials and extremely efficient heat exchangers. Thexpan® is made of two protective sheets, heat exchanger pipes and polyurethane thermal insulation. Importantly, the pipes are arranged directly under the sheet, on one or both sides, thanks to which they receive or give off heat with the largest possible surface. The source of energy can be completely renewable via the sun, air, heat pump, or geothermal. Thexpan® gives the possibility of using each of them.

In the ThexpanPLUS® version, the inner protective layer is replaced with an OSB board. This type of board eliminates the need to break thermal bridges by eliminating the sheet as a heat conductor and is our recommended finish for residential construction as it allows for easier fixings for finished internal linings.

The Thexpan® roof panel, in addition to providing protection, has two basic functions:

  • Collection of “heat” from external roof sheets heated by sunlight and ambient air,
  • Giving off “heat” to the external sheets of roofs in winter.

This makes it possible to, among other things, collect energy from the sun to obtain hot utility water in the summer or to clear snow from the roof in the winter. When working with a heat pump, Thexpan® also uses the air temperature. It can then “work” at any time of the year and regardless of the sun.
